Sonas Denim Campaign
Lifestyle Photographer Melis Dainon Shoots for Sonas Denim Re-brand
Sonas Denim is a vegan fashion label based in Los Angeles. Its owner and designer, Gerry Kelly, has been to nearly every festival that you can think of. But, it was one year at Burning Man that inspired him to start his own denim line. Known for their crazy outfits, Burning Man was a huge inspiration to Gerry who loved dressing in costume for events. After the festivals, day-to-day outfits seemed so…normal. And he saw no reason why everyday denim needs to be boring and basic. So, he created a unique line of sexy patchwork denim that would bring festival fashion to the streets. The signature edition multi-color is a cornerstone piece in the collection. It’s inspired by the design that Gerry made for himself, which gained so much popularity that he started designing them for other people. And that is how Sonas Denim was born.
The patchwork style is unique because it enables the designer to use scrap pieces of fabric. These pieces are left over when other clothes are cut, and ordinarily, they go to waste. The patchwork method can save these pieces and actually use them to create truly one-of-a-kind designs. This process is perfect for Gerry who is vegan and dedicated to creating smart fashion with a low carbon footprint. Sonas promises to always be 100% vegan, which means no leather tags on their jeans and no animal products in any of their designs as they expand. The brand also plans to go a step further and create an animal sanctuary that will be partially funded through proceeds from Sonas Denim sales.
