Sand and Denim Featuring Izzy
Quintessential LA Fashion: Swim & Denim
This swim & denim feature takes some of my favorite parts of LA fashion and blends them into a single shoot. Anyone who moved to Los Angeles for its sunshine and beach scene can appreciate a culture where jeans and swimwear is in season all year round. And as an LA fashion photographer who shoots outdoors a lot, I love the ability to use the coastline as my backdrop no matter the season. Sure, we cover up in the “winter” months and finally throw on our All Saints jackets. But, it’s paired with our favorite jeans (in this case, Sonas Denim) and that bikini (Pacific and Driftwood) is in the trunk in case it warms up a few degrees.
We are always on the lookout for faces that are intriguing and left of ordinary. Izzy is a great example of a face that captivates. She has a soulful stare that never hesitates and fits perfectly with our aesthetic and my affinity for manual focus. Finding models who can slow down and sit in a moment with me is tricky these days. The autofocus revolution and uber sync speeds practically made manual focus a thing of the past. And in a town where e-commerce photos are a constant gig for models, many get used to constantly moving while photographers fire off shots. So, when I ask them to slow down, to feel and own the moment, it’s sometimes a challenge.
Izzy, however, is tremendously flexible. She does e-comm like crazy, yet has the confidence to just be in the moment when asked. She’s gorgeous, unique, talented, and incredibly consistent – it’s no wonder that she’s requested time and time again (prime example: when we booked her for our Zero G Eyewear campaign). In this set, Izzy transports us to another place. While in reality, I was sitting in Long Beach, I was transported to the coast of Greece through my viewfinder. We hope you enjoy this journey as well (no passport required).
